Welcome to The Potting Shed

​

Located a mile down a bumpy track, surrounded by woods, wildlife and wonderful views, the Potting Shed provides the perfect dog friendly, self-catering accommodation where you can relax, unwind and rejuvenate. Guests are welcomed with a basket of homemade goodies that typically contains bread, jam, granola, and eggs from our free-range chickens. Tucked at the bottom of the walled garden on the Cowdenknowes Estate, just outside Earlston, the Potting Shed offers a unique, cosy hideaway in the heart of the Scottish Borders. Secluded, yet within easy reach of a wealth of local amenities and visitor attractions, time spent at the Potting Shed can be as quiet and relaxed or as energetic and adventurous as you choose.

The Potting Shed has been thoughtfully and lovingly restored to provide light and airy accommodation with a contemporary, rustic character. The accommodation consists of an open-plan kitchen/dining/sitting room, a double bedroom, small room (suitable for a travel cot), and a bathroom with shower. As you drive down the country track to reach your destination, you can feel the peace and tranquility descend upon you. Whether you're looking for a couple’s getaway, some time to relax by yourself or a writer's retreat, a stay at the Potting Shed provides the perfect hideaway in any season, you really are getting away from it all.​

Outside space

​

Potting Shed guests have their own enclosed small garden and patio area with table, chairs, sun loungers and BBQ, and tree-framed decked area overlooking the river. The latter provides the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine or morning coffee whilst listening to the sounds of the river and the countryside.

 

A wildflower meadow separates the Potting Shed’s garden from the landscaped gardens of the owner’s home, Garden Cottage. The surrounding woodlands can be accessed in minutes from the Potting Shed door.

 

A shed is available for guests to store outdoor kit (bikes, boots, fishing rods, etc.)

ROOMS

The Shed

Floor-to-ceiling windows give a light and airy feel to the open-plan living area, which consists of a small kitchen, a dining area and sitting room. Guests are kept cosy by the state-of- the-art Everhot electric range cooker and a wood-burning stove. (Logs and kindling are provided.) A small Freeview TV with DVD player (and a DVD library) is in the open-plan living area and the shelves are stuffed with good reads. Free Wi-Fi is available (but because of our rural location this can be slow and intermittent at times). A Bluetooth speaker and digital radio are also provided. A travel cot and high chair are available on request.

Bedroom

The luxurious king-sized bed is made up for your arrival using Egyptian cotton linen. Many of our guests comment on how comfortable the bed is and one guest loved it so much they have even bought their very own ‘Potting Shed’ bed!

Bathroom

​

In the fresh, modern bathroom. step out of the walk-in shower to find fluffy towels, and organic toiletries from the Sedbergh Soap Company.
